Ever wonder what a safari styled by Michael Kors would look like? While he has always alluded to glamorous American-touring-Africa-chic, the Spring 2012 collection is a true adventure – and offers the wardrobe for the most fabulous female Indiana Jones you could imagine. Warm sunset shades in naturalistic hand-dyed prints add jolts of color to neutral shades, designed to blend in with a savannah’s surroundings. Endless variations of olive, clay, and ivory were shredded, layered, draped, stripped, and billowed to perfection. Georgette and chiffon have never looked so organic. Chunky tread-sole sandals, as flat as can be, actually brought new verve to the whole “gladiator sandal” concept. With wanderer-worthy messenger bags slung across the chest and escapade-ready fanny packs in every skin under the desert sun, Michael’s earth-exploring character was complete.

But most impressive? He has reinterpreted animal prints – which is nearly impossible these days! An antelope serape dress stands out among the pack, so does the hand-painted python trench; though it’s the tiger-print duchess trench that has a major wow factor. Come spring, I hope to be traveling Michael Kors-style!
